First Visit...
Adam in TN
Our 14 hour day at Disney World had come to an end. The fireworks had been shot over Cinderella’s Castle and my Dad, brother, and I waited on a park bench for the bus to our car to arrive. Up walked an exhausted mom with two small boys in tow. They sat down and one of the young boys began to stare at this 25 year old, bearded man wearing Mickey Mouse ears. I looked at him and smiled and smiled back and rolled his head back into his Mom’s side, bashful and sleepy. I struck up a conversation with the mother and we talked about the day and how it had been her two son’s first visit to the Magic Kingdom. I said, “yeah it was ours too. We didn’t get to come as kids, but it’s never too late to be a child at heart.” I asked her at one point if they had gotten the special pins that said “1st visit to the Magic Kingdom” and she frowned and said, “no, I didn’t know there was such a thing.” Reaching down I undid the pin I had gotten earlier and kept on my shirt and gave it to one of her sons. Seeing what I had done, my Dad did the same. This year Disney’s theme is “The Year of a Million Wishes”. Seeing those boys smile at us was a wish come true for me...and the best part of the magical day.
